SUMMARY

The population census of 2011 features given the familiar pattern of decreasing Child Love-making Ratio (Age 0-6 years). From 976 in the census of 1961, it has fall to 914 in census of 2011 (provisional figures). Some of the Claims like Haryana (830) have reached a dangerous level. What is stunning is the rate of drop, which has collected momentum from the decade of 1970s. Curiously it coincides with the launch of Pre Natal Classification Techniques like Amniocentesis and Ultra Sonography. Because of the famous bias resistant to the girl, feminine infanticide, honour killing, dowry deaths and so forth have been common in our culture. However , the modern, non unpleasant prenatal diagnostic techniques include enabled early and quick sex perseverance and sex-biased selective termination of motherhood.

Though it is very difficult to credit exact amounts to sex-biased selective illigal baby killing, a recent research has predicted that the predicted gap in the girls to boy at the age of 0-6 years due to selective abortion of female fetuses in the last 40 years is between13. 3 to 13. several millions[1].

The Government provides responded to the difficulties of sex-biased abortions very late. Till 1971, the illegal abortions were managed under the provisions of IPC. In the year year 1971, the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act was passed. Though handed with very good intention, it resulted in increase in sex biased abortions. To avoid the wrong use of the Pre Natal Analysis Techniques, the Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Act was passed in 1994 which will came into power in 1996, which provides intended for Advisory committees and Suitable Authorities for enforcing the act in the district level.

Analysis from the policies as well as its implementation disclose that more hard work is needed in managing the need as well as supply of PNDT companies. Target community specific understanding generation strategy is needed. The district level apparatus should be strengthened and broadened to implement these kinds of campaigns. The proper authorities, associates of the advisory committees themselves need sensitization on the seriousness of the trouble

On the source side, the solutions are much easier. There has been gross under confirming of both the use of ultrasonography, as well as MTPs. The trials carried out in Kolhapur, Maharashtra of installing of SIOB (Silent Observer) with the ultra sonographs is worth recogniton. Online confirming combined with SIOB has reduced the below reporting from the cases and has caused quick action on violators. Sensitizing the judiciary within the implementation of PNDT Take action has hugely benefited in securing rapid convictions. The AGPs plus the Appropriate Authorities need to be been trained in instituting and arguing the cases because the cases under PNDT do not see a police for investigation.
